Three test positive for swine flu; total reaches 20

Bangalore/Jalandhar, June 14: A 29-year-old woman and her three-year-old child from Bangalore and a teenager from Jalandhar tested positive for H1N1 virus on Sunday, taking the overall swine flu cases in the country to 20.

The mother-child duo had arrived at the Bangaluru airport from New Jersey on 12th June, they were quarantined at Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases in Bangalore after having tested positive for swine flu, Director of Health and Family Welfare Services Usha Vasunkar said.

New Mumbai police chief says tackling terrorism will be a priority

Mumbai, June 14: New Mumbai Police Commissioner D.Sivanandan on Sunday said that tackling terrorism, protecting citizens' rights and reaching out to the youth in the city would be his top priorities.

"There are terror strikes in Mumbai and other parts of the country which have been found to have links with this city due to which we constantly have to remain alert," Sivanandan told reporters here soon after taking charge.

London, June 14: Megan Fox’s mother Darlene Tonachio has revealed she often rows with her actress daughter in a bid to dissuade her from getting more tattoos.

The 57-year-old mum confessed her 23-year-old “wild child”, who has nine tattoos, loves the body art and that her passion often leads to quarrels between the two.

“This is something we’ve had all sorts of verbal skirmishes over. And I guess we always will. She wants another one and I’m dead against it,” The Daily Star quoted her as saying.

Manmohan Singh to leave for BRIC, SCO summits tomorrow

New Delhi, June 14: The Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, will travel to Yekatarinberg, Russia, on Monday for a three-day visit during which he will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and Brazil-Russia-India-China (BRIC) summits.

He is also expected to meet Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari, marking the first top-level contact between India and Pakistan since the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai last year.

The main agenda of the two multilateral summits is expected to include the global financial crisis, terrorism and food security.

8 killed, 15 others wounded in Dera Ismail Khan bomb blast

Islamabad, June 14: At least eight people were killed and 15 others were injured in a powerful bomb blast which rocked Dera Ismail Khan in Pakistan on Sunday.

The blast took place in the Tijarat Ganj Market area of DI Khan and was so powerful that it destroyed several vehicles and shops.

Relief and rescue departments was pressed into service immediately after the blast. The wounded have been shifted to the district hospital, where the condition of seven persons was stated to be serious.

US drops ‘India, AQ Khan’ riders from Pak aid bill

Washington, June 14:  In what may be seen as a major concession to Pakistan, the US House of Representatives has dropped demands of access to the disgraced nuclear scientist Dr A.Q. Khan and preventing terrorist attacks against India as conditions from the aid bill offering Islamabad 1.5 billion dollars for the next five years.

When the Pakistan Enduring Assistance and Cooperation Enhancement Act’ (PEACE) was first tabled in the Congress in April, it required Pakistan to fulfill some major requirements in order to qualify for the aid.

Pakistan on a suicidal course: Imran Khan

London, June 14: Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan has warned that Pakistan is headed on a suicidal course as the offensive against the Taliban and other extremist organizations could prove counterproductive and fuel more extremism.

“I have never been so depressed in my life. Pakistan is on a suicidal course,” The Times quoted Khan, as saying.

Khan, who is in London to see his two sons and ex-wife Jemima, also denounced the notion of his party being a pro-Taliban organization.
